From 320 Pounds to Cartwheels at 59: One Woman’s Journey to Health and Happiness

What does it take to go from 320 pounds to 145, reclaim your health, and nail a cartwheel at 59 years old? According to Patricia Jenkins, this episode guest on Real Talk by Feel Good Share Good, it takes grit, determination, and a whole lot of self-love. Her story isn’t just about losing weight—it’s about flipping the script (literally!) on what’s possible at any age.

“I wanted to do a cartwheel again,” Patricia said, laughing. “When I was at my heaviest, I couldn’t even imagine bending over, let alone flipping upside down! But deep down, I knew I could get there if I committed to changing my life.”.

What kind of life do I want to live

And change it she did. After years of struggling with her weight and health, Patricia decided enough was enough. “I hit rock bottom when I realized my weight wasn’t just affecting my body—it was affecting my happiness, my energy, my everything,” she shared. “I had to ask myself, ‘What kind of life do I want to live?’ And more importantly, ‘What am I willing to do to make that happen?’”

Her transformation started with small steps—literally. Patricia began walking for just 10 minutes a day. “That first walk felt like climbing Everest,” she admitted. “But I kept going, and over time, 10 minutes turned into 20, and 20 turned into full-on workouts.”

Diets

When it came to her diet, Patricia threw out the idea of “quick fixes” and embraced balance instead. “Forget starving yourself or cutting out everything you love. That’s a recipe for failure,” she said. “I learned how to eat in a way that nourished my body and still let me enjoy my favorite foods. It’s about progress, not perfection.”

And the results? Nothing short of jaw-dropping. Not only did Patricia shed 175 pounds, but she also gained strength, confidence, and the ability to tackle that elusive cartwheel. “The first time I tried, I fell on my face,” she joked. “But I got back up. That’s the thing about this journey—it’s not about never falling; it’s about always getting back up.”

Patricia credits her success to a shift in mindset. “This wasn’t just about losing weight,” she explained. “It was about becoming the best version of myself. I learned to love the process, not just the result. And I learned to love myself, no matter where I was in my journey.”
